Everything you might
want to know

Have a question that isn’t here?

Reaching out about therapy can feel daunting. I've answered some questions here — and I'm always happy to talk through anything else on a free 15-minute consultation call.

  • Therapy is for anyone who wants to feel better, understand themselves more deeply, or navigate a challenge with support. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit. Many people come to therapy during life transitions, periods of stress, or simply because they want a dedicated space for reflection and growth. If you're curious about therapy, that curiosity itself is a great place to start.

  • The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I'll ask about what brings you to therapy, a bit about your background, and what you're hoping to get out of our work together. There's no pressure to share everything right away — we move at your pace. I also welcome your questions about my approach and how I work. By the end, we'll have a sense of whether we're a good fit and what a path forward might look like.

  • Yes — I offer secure video sessions for clients anywhere in California. Many clients find telehealth just as effective as in-person therapy, and it offers significantly more flexibility.

  • I am an out-of-network provider, which means I don't bill insurance directly. However, I provide a superbill (a detailed invoice) at the end of each month that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Many clients with PPO plans receive partial reimbursement. I recommend calling the member services number on your insurance card and asking: "What are my out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?"

  • I ask for at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are charged the full session fee, except in cases of emergency. I understand that life happens, and I approach this policy with flexibility and compassion — but consistency in scheduling helps us do our best work together.

  • The length of therapy varies widely depending on your goals, the complexity of what you're working through, and your own preferences. Some people find that short-term support addresses what they came for. Others find ongoing therapy valuable for personal growth over a longer period. I'll always check in with you about how things are going and adjust our work accordingly — you're always in the driver's seat.

  • Many clients begin with weekly sessions, although frequency can vary depending on your needs, goals, and preferences.

  • Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. What you share in sessions stays between us. There are a small number of legal exceptions — for example, if there is imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of suspected child abuse — which I'll explain thoroughly during our first session. Beyond these narrow exceptions, you have complete privacy.

  • The easiest first step is to reach out via the contact form or send me an email at lianne@liannezackler.com. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation where we can talk briefly about what you're looking for, answer any questions you have, and see if we feel like a good fit. There's no commitment involved — just a conversation.
